The college was established by the society in 1956 to fulfill the aforementioned objectives. It initially began in the ‘Mor Bhavan’ of the town with 40 students during the academic session 1956–57. At that time, the college was affiliated with Nagpur University, Nagpur.
Today, the college has a well-established infrastructure, including buildings, laboratories, a library, an auditorium, gardens, playgrounds for boys and girls, smart digital boards, etc., spread across 39 acres of land. The college offers education at the Higher Secondary level, undergraduate programs in Humanities, Commerce & Management, Home Science, and Science & Technology, as well as postgraduate programs in Humanities (Economics, History, Political Science, English, Marathi, and Hindi), Commerce, and Science (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, and Electronics). Since 1983, the college has been affiliated with Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati.
The foundation stone of the college was laid on 1st February 1958 by Shri Yashwantraoji Chavan, the then Chief Minister of Mumbai State. The college was honored by the visit of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, who inaugurated the Science Faculty on 18th April 1959. It is a matter of pride that the foundation stone of the building was laid by such eminent leaders.
Today, the college holds a prestigious position not only in the Vidarbha region but also across Maharashtra. The Golden Jubilee of the college was celebrated with the gracious blessings of His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Honorable President of India. His Excellency Shri Bhaironsingh Shekhawat, Honorable Vice-President of India, and Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil, Honorable President of India, have also visited the college.
Over time, the college has expanded its academic offerings with a conscious focus on the employability of its courses. Many of its students have achieved distinction in various fields. The management of the college is making every possible effort to meet the challenges of the ever-expanding world of knowledge and to empower students to lead lives enriched both materially and spiritually.
